Dr. Paton was awarded his MBBS from the University of Queensland Medical School in 1993. After serving for 5 years in the Royal Australian Navy as a medical officer he studied dentistry at the University of Adelaide. Dr. Paton was awarded a BDS in 2001 and received a Medal for academic excellence from the University. Dr. Paton's Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training was undertaken at the Royal Children's Hospital in Queensland, Royal Brisbane Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital and the Mater Hospital.
