About Doctor JD Ferwerda

Dr. JD received his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from the University of Utrecht in The Netherlands and became an ophthalmologist. In 2000, he became a Fellow in Vitreo-Retina Surgery and Diseases.
He treated patients for over 28 years in several European countries before coming to Vietnam, performing over 10,000 cataracts and 6,000 retina surgeries.
Dr. JD has been performing cataract and glaucoma surgeries, complex retina surgeries, and various other eye procedures, always with the latest techniques and equipment.

Eye Specialist Consultation

I experienced some issues, such as difficulty going downstairs, not seeing levels clearly, and even pouring wine beside the glass. I also noticed a shadow in my left eye, so I booked an appointment with Dr. Jan Ferwerda for an eye check-up. The ophthalmologist performed several tests and then asked me to cover my right eye and describe what I saw. My response was, "Not very much." After further examination, Dr. Ferwerda diagnosed a cataract in my left eye and recommended lens replacement. The surgery was scheduled for the following Friday, and the operation was a success. Afterwards, I had a follow-up appointment, and Dr Ferwerda proceeded with the right eye surgery. Now, I can see perfectly without glasses—it's like entering a new world with clear vision. In conclusion, the Eye Clinic is extremely professional in every aspect, from booking appointments to tests, surgeries, and the final exam with Dr. Ferwerda. Simply put, no-nonsense—straightforward and efficient. If you have even the slightest problem with your eyes. I highly recommend booking an appointment—you won’t be disappointed.

I recently decided to improve my vision by having new lenses inserted in both eyes. From my initial appointment—where I received comprehensive testing and a thorough examination—through to the surgery itself and all follow-up reviews, the entire team, led by Dr. JD Ferweda, were consistently courteous, friendly, and highly professional.The European Eye Centre is exceptionally clean, well-organised, and equipped with what appears to be the latest technology. Who is really keen to have eye surgery? Nobody. We researched for a long time and my wife was immediately convinced that she had found the right person when she called Dr. Ferwerder. The entire examination phase and the two operations went smoothly and everything was done within a week and we both had the operation, on both eyes.Dr. Ferwerder combines immense specialist knowledge, an unrivaled routine and a great team into a surgical experience and all of this is accompanied by a daily tsunami of humor.It's a shame that you only have two eyes, otherwise I would do it again straight away.I also know from conversations with friends and acquaintances, who did the same but in Malaysia, Singapore or Bangkok, that my result is the best. I hear completely different results and can happily report that we made the right decision to go for Dr. Ferwerder and his team.In addition, I really like his style, not everyone has to like it, but in my case it's a 100% fit! Thank you Dr. Ferwerder and team, after 4 weeks I have finally also stopped adjusting the glasses on my nose that I don't have.And he said, “Get up, throw away your glasses and see”!
