Dr Elena Kontogianni BSc, PhD, is an embryologist-geneticist and a pioneer in infertility treatment and preimplantation genetics.

Scientific excellence combined with her deep caring for the patients is what makes her unique in her field. She has helped thousands of couples overcome their fertility issues and become parents. She has shared with them the anxiety in the first stages, when they don’t know if they can have a baby, but also the unique moments of happiness and fulfillment when more than 7,000 IVF babies were born with her help.

She performed the first Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis in the world, at Hammersmith Hospital, in the team of Lord Professor Robert Winston and Professor Alan H. Handyside.

She is actively working on Preimplantation Diagnosis for chromosomal abnormalities and

β-thalassaemia and was awarded by the Greek Medical Association for her research.

She teaches at the Post-Graduate Program of Reproductive Medicine in the Medical School of the University of Athens.
