Once again I returned to Mr James Lewis, the best hip replacement surgeon in the country and was not disappointed! My recovery after just 2 weeks is fantastic. Prior to surgery, I was totally reliant on crutches and in just 2 weeks post-surgery I am walking unaided! The staff at Goring Hall are also very professional and enabling. My care was first-rate at all times. I would not hesitate to recommend my surgeon Mr James Lewis and all of the staff at Goring Hall West Sussex.

Best hospital I have ever been to! Excellent care from all the staff. Lovely en-suite room overlooking the forest. Under the supervision of James Lewis, my left hip surgery went better than my expectations and his promise to me. I am a nervous patient, but James explained everything in detail to me in the presence of both my son and daughter. I first met James on 11th February 2025, where I had an immediate X-ray showing my osteoarthritis and complete disintegration of my hip. I had suffered years of severe pain. Life was totally intolerable for me at 66 years old. This is my fourth major surgery in less than four years. Having endured years of pain, I had two knee replacements—four months apart—in 2024. Both were difficult, major surgeries, but both were very successful. I also had to undergo two painful tongue biopsies for suspected lichen planus, with partial tongue removal in December 2022. I truly sailed through this left hip surgery. I had a spinal block in my back for the procedure and woke up able to walk the next morning. The nursing staff are unique, devoted, and so caring—the theatre staff, caterers, and physios too. I do hope I haven’t missed anyone. I would highly recommend James Lewis and all his team at Goring Hall Hospital. My sincere thanks to you all. Please don’t live in pain—phone James!

I received my 2nd hip replacement on Nov 9, the 1st being just over 6 years before and I didn't hesitate in returning to James Lewis. Two days after the operation, I stopped using my walking stick as I felt so confident and able without it. A retired doctor living nearby saw me on day five and said that he thought I was going to have a hip replacement, you can imagine the look on his face when I told him that I'd just had it! He said if ever he needs the operation he definitely wants my surgeon! The physiotherapist was equally impressed with the 'remarkable' progress. Many thanks to the clinic for the expertise and care and I will continue to recommend him.

It is now just over 6 months since James Lewes replaced my right hip. The recovery has gone well and I am delighted with my "new" hip. I can do all the exercises I did prior to surgery but now without the pain. I have impressed the physiotherapists I have met and they have said my recovery is much faster than other people they have dealt with who have had hip replacements. I believe this is due to the minimally invasive technique that Mr Lewes performs. Unfortunately, I will at some point have to have my other hip replaced as I know it also has moderate osteoarthritis. However, if this is the case I would not hesitate to contact Mr Lewes again. I have been recommending him to anybody I know who needs a hip replacement. I cannot thank Mr Lewes and his team enough for their professional skills and care.

I have had both hip replacements at Goring Hall in Worthing and I am delighted with the outcome. My surgeon Mr James Lewis has been amazing and has given me my quality of life back! I can not thank him enough. All the teams involved in my treatment have been brilliant. I can now look forward to pain free walking.

Mr James Lewis replaced my right hip 11 years ago and my left knee a couple of years later. He has now just replaced my left hip. I cannot recommend him highly enough. Each stage of the procedure is fully explained and having been operated on in the morning I was up and walking in the afternoon and home the next day. All pain has gone and my mobility is now excellent after only two weeks. Mr Lewis follows up after the operation and is happy for you to contact him if you have any concerns. Really looking forward to long walks again!

My wife has dementia so is unable to write this comment she had a total right hip replacement on 9 December 2023 by epidural done by Mr James Lewis. From the pre-operation appointment to the actual operation and aftercare, we were kept fully aware of what would happen. The operation went as planned and within hours of recovery from the epidural, my wife was up and walking with a frame/sticks and pain-free.She was discharged the next day walking with a frame and I'm sure within a few days will not need the frame. I cannot thank Mr Lewis enough for what he has done and I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone with hip problems.

Hi, I had my left hip replaced on the 30th March and my Right hip replaced on the 25th May 2022 at Goring Hall Hospital by Mr James Lewis. I chose James as he replaced my partners knees 3 years ago and she's always telling everybody how well everything went. Mr Lewis is well ahead of the game with his techniques and the implants he uses. The surgery went well and was virtually pain free. I could walk easily without sticks after 5 days and climb the stairs without sticks after the same time. Me Lewis is the ultimate professional as far as I'm concerned and I can't speak more highly of him.

I had my right hip replaced on the 21st April 2021(sorry I have taken so long to write a review, life has taken over!) as covid cases were coming down and I felt I could no longer live with the constant pain, lack of sleep and limits on my life that my hip was imposing.Through an internet search and careful research, I was in a privileged position to be able to choose my surgeon. Mr Lewis really stood out as a talented, caring surgeon in whom I could place my trust and I certainly was not proved wrong.After a long telephone conversation with Mr Lewis where the operation was fully explained; questions were answered and much information was then emailed through for me to digest; I was left with a very positive mindset, so my operation was booked.My care and treatment at Goring Hall hospital were second to none and I thank everyone there for making my short stay so comfortable. The operation went smoothly and the very next day I felt I already had confidence in my new hip as I was put through my paces by the physio. Thus it was time for the home to continue my recovery. At home, following all the advice, I recovered well. The wound site healed beautifully and my mobility slowly improved. The two follow up phone calls with Mr Lewis again gave me confidence. Just under 7 weeks later I was back to work in school. The ten-week post-op was a real milestone for me when I was able to sleep peacefully again. It was heaven. Now at 3 months plus I am out enjoying country rambles with my dog and friends with no pain in my right leg... it's wonderful.I cannot thank Mr Lewis and the team at Goring Hall enough and I do feel privileged to have been under their professional care. Such a skilled surgeon with so much attention to detail.

I have had both knees replaced by James Lewis. So, when I needed my right hip replaced, I thought he was more a knee specialist than a hip. He always came over very professional and made me feel at ease, explained everything clearly. So, on May 1st I put my trust once more in James and his team, I had a full right hip replacement, and I am so pleased that I did. I suffer from fibromyalgia myalgia so my pain threshold is quite a complicated affair. James managed my pain with outstanding results- I have never had such an easy time of anything else in my whole life. Thank you to James once more for giving me my life back.
